Editorial Roles and Responsibilities

Editor-in-Chief

Provides overall scholarly and editorial leadership; safeguards the journal's scope and academic standards; supervises editorial policy; makes or confirms final editorial decisions; oversees ethical cases, corrections, retractions, and conflicts of interest; and leads periodic evaluation of journal quality.

Managing Editor

Coordinates the day-to-day editorial workflow in OJS; performs or coordinates administrative screening; monitors submission, review, revision, copyediting, production, metadata, and publication schedules; communicates with authors, editors, and reviewers; and maintains editorial documentation and publication records.

Editorial Board

Supports initial manuscript assessment, scope evaluation, reviewer selection, review monitoring, scholarly quality control, policy development, and strategic journal development. Editorial Board members may act as handling editors for manuscripts within their areas of expertise.

Technical Support

Supports OJS configuration, user access, metadata consistency, DOI readiness, website maintenance, backup procedures, and other technical publishing functions. Technical Support does not determine the scientific acceptance or rejection of manuscripts.

Editorial Independence and Ethical Standards

  • Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit, methodological quality, relevance to JEMPI's Focus and Scope, ethical compliance, and peer-review evidence.
  • Editors must disclose actual or potential conflicts of interest and must not handle manuscripts where their independence could reasonably be questioned.
  • Editors must preserve manuscript confidentiality and may not use unpublished information for personal, professional, or institutional advantage.
  • Editors may not guarantee acceptance, accreditation, indexing, citation outcomes, or publication results that are outside the journal's scientific and editorial process.
  • Where an editor has a conflict of interest, responsibility for the manuscript must be transferred to another qualified editor.
  • Reviewer recommendations inform editorial decisions but do not automatically determine the final decision.
  • Editorial processes, decisions, revisions, correspondence, and supporting evidence should be documented in OJS or in the journal's authorized editorial records.

Academic degrees may be retained on the public Editorial Team page if the journal wishes to use them consistently. However, author names in published articles should follow the manuscript template and normally appear without academic degrees.
